About Georgia
Hi, I’m Georgia Harrison, home organiser and declutter coach, owner of Spit Spot Organise and Declutter.
Spit Spot Organise and Declutter was created from my desire to help people, my need to be flexible, and my natural fondness for decluttering and organising.
I was a messy child and my teenage bedroom was chaotic. Change comes from change, and what is different now than before is that I have two children to look after and be responsible for.
It wasn’t an immediate change though. I knew I needed to get organised so that’s what I tried to do; organise my clutter. Can you guess how that went?
I spent far too much of my time trying to organise clutter, keep my home tidy, and clean everything on a regular schedule.
When there’s more stuff to clean, it takes longer. Not a groundbreaking revelation I know, but sometimes we need reminding that our possessions cost us time and energy to maintain.
I started decluttering throughout the year instead of leaving it till Spring. In the lead up to Christmas, I decluttered the kitchen. Before the kids’ birthdays, I would help them go through their belongings. In the new year, I would tackle the storage areas, and the living spaces would get done at some other point in the year.
Now, this method made a dent, but I was still only getting rid of items that were “easy”. The items that were broken, worn out, and completely unusable. It wasn’t until 2018-2019 that things really kicked into gear and I began seeing the results I had been aiming for.
I did the KonMari Method and I copied the Packing Party by Ryan Nicodemus of “The Minimalists”.
Don’t worry, I am not going to ask you if a pack of batteries spark joy for you, nor am I going to ask you to box up every item you own for 3 weeks.
All I want to do is share with you what works.
It isn’t a special way of folding your underwear, nor is it going to an extreme. Do you want to know the big secret to making lasting change in this, and any other area, of your life?
Change your mindset.
Seriously, that’s all there is to it. Once I started thinking like a person who doesn’t hang on to clutter, it became easier and more natural to live that way.
This is why the first step of my process is to help you adjust your mindset.
